Luxury Glamping on the Ningaloo Reef

Sal Salis

$$$$$

If you want to live like royalty, Sal Salis is the place to be. Just a few years ago, our favorite party boy prince settled down with a lovely American actress in a royal wedding of fairytale proportions. I didn’t see them firsthand, but the rumor mill in a small town works overtime and word on the reef is that Harry and Meghan chose to spend part of their honeymoon at the ultra-luxe Sal Salis set in the heart of Cape Range National Park, where the beaches are pristine and the light pollution-free night sky shines with more stars than you can imagine.

A safari beach camp may sound a bit too rustic for your liking,  but these aren’t your typical tents! Sal Salis promises bush luxury in their eco-luxe camp, which protects the environment while accommodating guests in their barefoot version of luxury. (Read: ensuite nature-loos and 20 liters per day for showering with eco-friendly products.) At this Ningaloo Reef luxury accommodation, the Wilderness Tents are designed to blend in with the surrounding nature and offer great views of the ocean and surrounding ranges. Wake up to see kangaroos on property and fall asleep listening to the distant sounds of humpback whales breaching in the ocean.

Activities at Sal Salis

Enjoy an escape from the everyday– there’s no wifi, telephones or televisions in the rooms, so you can spend your days lazing in your hammock, joining a guided hike through the ranges or snorkeling on the famous Ningaloo Reef. Join a tour to swim with humpbacks or whale sharks or borrow snorkel gear or a kayak and head out to the reef (accessible from the resort) where you can find turtles and hundreds of fish!

Food at Sal Salis

And just in case you’re not convinced of Sal Salis’ luxurious nature yet, let’s chat about food. The resident chef prepares three meals a day, featuring seasonal ingredients to create, local and bush-inspired dishes. Start your day with a hot breakfast, then enjoy lunch at midday, canapés at sunset and a three-course dinner each evening.

Backpacker accommodation in Exmouth

Potshot Hotel Resort

$-$$

When I first arrived in Exmouth, Potshot Hotel Resort was my Ningaloo Reef accommodation of choice for the first week. I shared an all-female dorm with five other girls. If you’re looking for a place to make friends, make meals together in the shared kitchen and have a little boogie on a Friday night, Potshot Resort Hotel is the place to be! On Friday nights, the music is cranked up loud and goon sunrises encourage backpackers and locals to get out on the dance floor until Semisonic’s Closing Time plays at midnight.

While my experience at the Potshot was spent in the backpacker dorm, this Exmouth accommodation also offers budget and standard rooms, apartments and villas for every price point and life stage. Don’t let the Friday night party scare you off… with a location right in the heart of town and a long history, this is one of the best places to stay in Exmouth for first time visitors!
