National Donut Day (and how you can get free donuts!)

Entenmann's Donut Day

PSA: Friday June 5 is National Donut Day. It has just taken over as my favorite food holiday, passing National Ice Cream Day.

Here’s the history of the day: National Donut Day was created in 1938 to commemorate The Salvation Army volunteers who gave donuts to soldiers during WWI. Donuts for a good cause is something I can get behind!

Here’s how you can score free donuts on this glorious holiday.

Krispy Kreme

I just returned from Israel (you can read about my trip here and here) and while I was shopping in the Old City, I talked to a friend whose family shop has been around for 387 years! He went to school in the States, but now lives in Jerusalem. His answer when I asked him what he misses most about America? Krispy Kreme! That red Hot Now sign beckons all who pass by!

Krispy Kreme is offering a free donut of any variety to all who come to their store on Friday.

Dunkin’ Donuts

With the purchase of any beverage, DD will give you a free donut of your choice.

Entenmann’s

Enter their Donut Day Sweepstakes, and you could win a year’s supply of donuts! (Sweepstakes ends July 3.)

Shipley Do-Nuts

If you’re lucky enough to have a Shipley’s near you, stop by between 5am and 12pm for a free glazed donut. And while you’re there… purchase one (or one dozen) because a portion of their sales go to the Salvation Army.

Dallas-area favorites

If you’re in the Dallas area, here are a few places where you can get your free fix:

Jarams

Jarams is one of my favorite donut places in Dallas. They have the most creative donuts I’ve ever seen (Maple Almond Sugar Donuts, Croissant Donuts, Funnel Cake Donuts, Creme Brûlée Donuts… and that’s just a few!) and they taste AMAZING!

Upload a selfie of you and one of their specialty donuts between June 5-7, and you’ll get a free donut of your choice if you come back before June 30 and show them the photo. Full rules on their Instagram. You’ll want to follow them, I promise!

Glazed Donut Works

Visit them on Friday morning for an old fashioned buttermilk or old fashioned chocolate. While you’re there, pick up one of their other flavors:

Maple Bacon Ring
Saigon Cinnamon Sugar
Coconut Coconut
Blackberry Moonshine (vegan)
S’mores
Watermelon
Red Velvet & Cream Cheese
Chocolate Nutella

You can pre-order the specialty flavors today at: [email protected].

Where will you go to get your free donut?

As an expert in the field, is it "Donut" or "Doughnut?" And why are there two spellings? Are those who use "Doughnut" just trying to be uppity and show they can spell longer words? This has bothered me for years and I'm thankful there is now an expert in the field of do(ugh)nuts out there to answer these pressing questions.

It seems that my spelling has been influenced by Dunkin' Donuts. I blame our relatives up north :) ‘Donut’ vs. ‘Doughnut:’ The Most Delicious Spelling Bee of All Time Rages On
