Songs about dessert: cake, pie, and other baked goods
Apple Pie à la Mode
I have never once referred to any of my dates as a chocolate-covered strawberry apple pie à la mode. Maybe that’s where I’ve been going wrong…
Cake By the Ocean
Every time I use “Cake by the Ocean” as an Instagram caption, the know-it-alls feel the urge to tell me the true origins of the song. Apparently, the Swedish producers kept confusing “cake by the ocean” and “sex on the beach” and a hit was born!
I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)
I know the lyrics “sugar pie, honey bunch, you know that I’m weak for you, I can’t help myself, I love you and nobody else” are about a lover… but I feel the same way about ice cream.
Song of the South
Give me a delicious sweet potato pie and I’d shut my mouth, too! It’s rude to chew with your mouth open!
Songs about ice cream and frozen deliciousness
The Swan Sisters
This is quite possibly one of my favorite songs in the whole entire world. It evokes road trips around Queenstown, New Zealand with my bestie on missions to find pastries in Wanaka and explore Arrowtown. Here are my favorite lyrics:
“Oh, when I miss you I just think of little things like ice creams and sunbeams… And on the days you’re feeling low I want to teleport and hug you. Tap dance my small shoes. Make you apple pie like it’s a cooking show delight cuz when it’s us two, we can be great fools”
You won’t find this album on iTunes or Spotify, but you can buy the whole album for less than $7USD here.
Ice Cream Song
The Mother Goose Club
“Ice Cream Song” makes me smile every time I hear it. Try not to get this caught in your head: “When the day is hot and steamy, Ice cream is so cold and creamy. Put it in a cone. Put it in a cup. I’m just gonna eat it up!”
Y’all, I’ve been making (and drinking ) milkshakes for years, but there are no boys in my yard. Although the song may be misleading, I’ll keep drinking milkshakes just in case.
Songs about candy
A Marshmallow World
Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, and SO SO many more!
It’s not Christmas until “A Marshmallow World” has been played on the radio 100 times! Who doesn’t love a “whipped cream day”?
Cameo’s “Candy” was released the year I was born. With a song like that on the radio, it’s no surprise I love all the sugary sweetness.
Will Smith samples Cameo’s “Candy” in his song– also named “Candy.”
New Edition feels a whole lot like Jackson 5 with an 80s beat!
Pretty sure he’s not *actually* talking about a candy shop…
“Candyman” is a modern-day “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” with some scandalous overtones!
Cotton Candy Land
This is a sweet tooth’s ultimate lullaby: “A cloud of pink ice cream, Where every star is a candy bar, And the moon is a marshmallow dream.”
I Want Candy
Bow Wow Wow
Bow Wow, I so relate.
Kid in a Candy Store
The line “Gonna live the dream like a candy queen” makes this song my anthem.
Julius Dixson and Beverly Ross were scheduled for a songwriting session, but when Dixson’s daughter got a lollipop stuck in her hair, it made the songwriter late to the meeting… and inspired the beloved doo wop song!
Sex and Candy
Eleven-year-old me was very confused about what these two topics had to do with each other.
Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows
I love this sunshiny song! I also like the ukulele version by Lenka.
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Love this song played on the ukulele that takes me to a place where “troubles melt like lemon drops.”
Songs about sugar
I Got You (I Feel Good)
James Brown & The Famous Flames
It’s impossible to feel anything but good when listening to this song!
“I just wanna make you go away, But you taste like sugar” is exactly why I can’t cut ice cream out of my diet…
Pour Some Sugar on Me
Sounds sticky, but no rocking night out is complete without this song!
Jennifer Nettles rose to stardom in a band called Sugarland. Then, in 2015, she released “Sugar” as a solo act. She’s definitely into the sweetness!
Don’t miss the music video for “Sugar!” Maroon 5 crashed weddings around LA, and the result was (you guessed it) sweet!
This song about sugar is a little more sad than sweet.
I loved the movie “Now and Then” and this song always makes me think of sweet summer days with friends.
The McGuire Sisters
“Sugar in the mornin’, Sugar in the evenin’, Sugar at suppertime” sounds a whole lot like my diet.
Sugar, We’re Goin Down
Fall Out Boy
The perfect sweet song for teenage angst.
Both the band and the song are super sweet!

Songs about sweets from musicals and movies
A Spoonful of Sugar
Mary Poppins: Julie Andrews
And thus a whole generation of kids who need a spoonful of sugar to soothe the ickiness of medicine, break-ups, and bad days. Pass the ice cream, please!
Pitch Perfect 2: The Treblemakers
“Lollipop” is a total bop, and I’m here for it! I love everything about Pitch Perfect and this song is no exception.
Heathers the Musical:Jodie Steele, Sophie Isaacs, and T’Shan Williams
This song is anything but sweet. I highly recommend staying away from the Heathers’s candy store.
Waitress: Sara Bareilles
I still haven’t seen the musical, but I know every word to every song by heart. Sara Bareilles croons “sugar, butter, flour” as she sings about a perfect baked good and a mess of a life. Relatable.
Anne of Green Gables: The Musical
I love this ode to ice cream!
Vanilla Ice Cream
She Loves Me: Laura Benanti
I’ve often said the world would have less conflict if there was more ice cream. And this song proves it!
The Candy Man
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory: Aubrey Woods
Did you know that I met the real-life Texan Willy Wonka?
Songs about dessert from my childhood
I’m a 90s kid, and I still jam out to Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, and Hanson on the regular. Doubt my 90s devotion? Check out my awesome birthday cake, a la Lisa Frank!
I’ll never believe that anyone truly misses me unless they tell me they miss me like candy.
The Danish dance-pop group is best known for “Barbie Girl,” but the entire “Aquarium” album is dance-worthy!
Holy moly. I had NO idea what I was singing about.
Songs about sweets that include fruit
Ok, so I am staunchly in the “fruit is NOT a dessert” camp. Just try to convince me otherwise. However, I know that many of y’all lump fruit into the dessert category and I’m a non-judgy kinda gal, so I’ve included sweets songs about fruit here just for you.
Bananas are not dessert. But I guess they can be breakfast. Although, if you’re taking orders, I’d prefer chocolate chips in my pancakes…
