After two incredible weeks on the Kerala Blog Express, my time in India had come to an end… or so I thought. I was excited to learn that I would be flying from Kochi to Singapore with SilkAir, a regional wing of Singapore Airlines with a few of my new blogger friends.
We arrived at the Kochi airport only to learn that our flight was postponed until the next day. I find that the difference between a good company and a great one is found in the stressful times. And SilkAir was being put to the test.
Within minutes, the kind and professional SilkAir staff had informed us of the situation, ushered us outside and into vehicles waiting to take us to hotels arranged (free of charge) for all affected by the flight cancellation. Our stay at the Courtyard by Marriott, Kochi Airport was lovely. And our delayed group was well fed, since the dinner, breakfast and lunch was also provided by SilkAir.

Luxury in Business Class
Check in on day two was easy, and I learned that I had been upgraded to business class! As a business class passenger, I was able to relax in the Earth Lounge before my flight and enjoyed a drink and a few snacks before boarding.
I shouldn’t have worried about being well fed though, because SilkAir had me covered! As we boarded the Boeing 737-800, we were shown to our comfy seats and handed a warm towel.
I traded the towel for a glass of wine and chips… Let the relaxation begin! The flight attendant brought a menu and I placed my order for dinner.
SilkAir provides a Western and an Indian option, and ranks among the best airplane food I’ve tasted. Plus, I felt pretty fancy using real china and silverware.
The 4-hour trip to Singapore passed quickly with inflight entertainment, pre-loaded onto a tablet at my seat. The business class seats were comfy and the pillow and cozy blanket allowed for some rest after an exciting two weeks in Kerala.
Great customer service when things don’t go according to plan
We landed in Singapore, where SilkAir and the Singapore Airlines helped me rearrange my subsequent flights (which had been missed due to the flight delay), resulting in a surprise two days in Singapore. Another airline might have left me to fend for myself which would have been scary since I had no idea what to do or where to stay in Singapore. But with SilkAir, I was so well cared for and so thankful for the opportunity to fly with SilkAir.
Fly to Kerala with SilkAir
If you’re planning a trip to Kerala, whether it be for adventure activities, dessert, or the just-plain-awesomeness that is Kerala, Singapore Airlines’ daily flights from Los Angeles to Singapore allow you to make a seamless connection to a SilkAir flight and on to Kerala. Fly into Kochi, the world’s only solar powered airport, on one of their 10 flights per week. Or begin a beach vacation by flying on one of SilkAir’s five flights per week into Trivandrum. Whichever holiday you choose, SilkAir will get you there!
Disclaimer: I received a business class upgrade from SilkAir free of charge, but as always, all opinions are my own!
